If you're on an insurance plan named after a precious metal, you shouldn't be. Health insurance companies have been over-reaching for years. Even the cheapest health plan your employer offers covers WAY more than it should and will ever need, so don't get conned out of more money by picking a low-deductible "Platinum" plan.
As an EvolveMD patient, many of your primary healthcare services will be taken care of by your doctor. One who knows you inside and out and knows when it's appropriate to do expensive tests and when it's not. You'll likely save a bundle in out of pocket costs on labs and medications, too. There are of course medical issues that arise that your doctor may not be equipped to manage in the context of our clinic. Unfortunately if that is the case, it's probably serious. That is why we recommend carrying a high deductible plan. These are often much less expensive. So in coordination with EvolveMD, there's a good chance you'll be able to save quite a bit. But also, if you do have a serious medical issue or injury, then you'll very likely hit your out-of-pocket maximum (OOP). This OOP is what it sounds like: the maximum amount you can possibly spend on healthcare before your insurance plan starts footing some of the bill.
Here's the thing: the OOP costs for the cheapest and most expensive plans don't vary that much. Aetna's cheapest plan costs roughly $600 per year and has an OOP of $6650. Their most expensive plan costs $4200/year with an OOP of $4000. That means you'd be paying a guaranteed $3600 extra dollars ($4200 - $600) to avoid the small chance of paying an extra $2650 (6650 - 4000) on your healthcare. That doesn't make sense! You're likely better off on a cheaper plan. The exception being if you have serious chronic conditions that may require frequent use of hospitals and specialists that would necessitate more robust insurance plan.
The synergistic combination of EvolveMD and an inexpensive insurance plan to cover major catastrophic events is likely to be the most affordable way for you to get the individualized care you deserve.
